  8. II Preparation
  9.      Read this document completely.  Select a smooth surface
  10.      to  work on such as an antistatic mat or a towel spread
  11.      on a table. Put the R7000 in front of you with all  the
  12.      equipment  you will need at reach. The receiver must be
  13.      unplugged. For safety reasons and  protection  of  your
  14.      equipment  it  is  advisable  that  you  leave the ICOM
  15.      unplugged for a couple of hours to allow components  to
  16.      cool  and  capacitors to discharge.  Take off the front
  17.      panel and the bottom panel as described in the exploded
  18.      views  of  the service manual.  Disconnect and take off
  19.      the logic board  (remember  the  connector  positions).
  20.      Disconnect  and  take  off the SW3 board it may require
  21.      disconnecting other boards.

  24. III The memory module
  25.      Locate IC8 on the logic board. It is the chip with  the
  26.      battery  on top of it. Locate pin 19. Use the reference
  27.      in the service manual to find the correct  pin  labeled
  28.      A10 (page 7-9).

  47.      Now think on how difficult it will be to  unsolder  pin
  48.      19. If you think it is beyond your skills, get help.
  49.      Unsolder pin 19 and use a pair of small pliers to  pull
  50.      it  out  of  it  hole.  Make sure it does not touch the
  51.      transistor nearby.  solder a wire to pin 19. this  wire
  52.      must  be long enough to reach the front panel later on.
  53.      When this is done, verify that pin 19 is not in contact
  54.      with  anything  (you may want to isolate it).  You have
  55.      done the most difficult part of the modification.
